The History of Kuhns Bros. Log Homes
Our Knowledge spans over three decades
1962 Kuhns Bros. Lumber Company is established. Twin brothers Leonard and Larry Kuhns start in business with a small, hand operated, diesel-powered sawmill. Their father, a logger and sawmiller by trade, instilled in his sons a sense of worth and respect for the land. The company employs three and produces 500,000 board feet of lumber per year.
1972 Kuhns Bros. Lumber company is incorporated and employs 12.
1978 The lumber company adds a fully automatic, electric powered sawmill capable of producing six million board feet of lumber per year. The company now employs 21.
1983 The lumber company expands into the Log Home industry (later a separate company, Kuhns Bros. Log Homes is created)
1984 A kiln with the capacity of 50,000 board feet is added, allowing Kuhns Bros. Log Homes to offer top quality kiln dried components to its home buyers.
1986 A third sawmill is added to keep up with the increased demand for Kuhns Bros Log Homes.
1987 A second kiln with the capacity of 50,000 board feet is installed.
1988 A fourth sawmill is added for additional production capacity.
1993 The precutting department doubles production capacity. The whole new custom-designed production line features specially made equipment in a 12,000 square foot building.
1995 A third Kiln with the capacity of 50,000 board feet is installed.
1997 Expansion projects double the office and protected lumber storage areas. Two new planners add four new log styles.
1998 Three more kilns are added with the capacity of 200,000 board feet. A 6,500 square foot building to the production facility housing another cut line with specialty equipment capable of producing a variety of precut products.
1999 Operations expand into the Mid-West with the addition of a third corporate sales office in Central Missouri - a 2,754 square foot standard Northumberland Model.
2000 Six new kilns are erected which double kiln drying output. A 5000 square foot office is built to house expanded service and engineering staff. A second cut line is added, which doubles that departments capacity. A newly acquired high speed planner is installed, increasing planning production by 30 percent. A 6,000 square foot dry storage building is added. Operations expand into the South with a fourth corporate sales center in North Carolina.
Presently, Kuhns Bros. Log Homes, Inc. remains a leading manufacturer of high quality log homes, annually delivering more than 500 homes across the United States and abroad......from Maine to California, to the countries of Japan, the Dominican Republic, Denmark, The Netherlands, South Korea, Portugal, Canada and Mexico.
And Kuhns Bros. now encompasses more than 135 acres and employs more than 200. Annual production is greater than 14 million board feet of lumber!
